Founded in 1911, the University of Porto (U.Porto) is a benchmark institution in Higher Education and Scientific Research in Portugal and one of the top 200 European Universities according to the most relevant international ranking systems.
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto (FLUP), for its part, has a history that dates back to 1919, when it was founded, and fulfils its mission through an educational, scientific and cultural project that is academically and socially relevant.
Today, it offers multiple disciplinary areas covering Archaeology, Communication and Information Sciences, Language Sciences, German and German-speaking Studies, English and English-speaking Studies, Political and International Studies, Romance and Classical Studies, Philosophy, Geography, History, Art History, Museology and Sociology.
Within this general framework, the training offer encompasses more specialised areas, such as International Relations, Translation, Portuguese as a Foreign Language, Comparative Literature, Didactics, African Studies, Heritage Studies, Geographical Information Systems and Spatial Planning or Medieval Studies.
It has a highly qualified teaching staff, made up almost exclusively of lecturers with doctorates, with vast scientific production and professional experience, which exceeds two hundred and is distributed across nine Departments.
With over 4,300 students and 1,700 trainees, they can choose from a wide range of programmes, including 13 first cycle courses (bachelor’s degree), 29 second cycle courses (master’s degree) and 10 third cycle courses (doctorate).
