Eric Vaz
Exploring the Last Frontier: From Regional to Local in Spatial Sciences
Prof. Dr. Eric Vaz is a globally recognized scholar and thought leader in geography and habitats, currently ranked n.18 worldwide by ScholarGPS. He is a full professor of geographical analysis and the graduate program director of spatial analysis at Toronto Metropolitan University. Additionally, he is the founding Director of the Laboratory for Geocomputation.
Professor Vaz is a pioneer in his field, with an impressive and impactful scholarly portfolio. His contributions to regional science were recognized early in his career when he was named a Rising Star by the Regional Science Association International in 2012. At Toronto Metropolitan University, he has received the Dean's SRC Award from the Faculty of Arts twice (2015 and 2021) for his exceptional achievements in scholarship. From 2018 to 2021, he served as President of the Canadian Regional Science Association, further solidifying his leadership in the discipline.
Professor Vaz has published over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and six books with Springer, including three monographs. His research spans spatial analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to regional change, delivering vital insights for policy-making in the Anthropocene. Beyond his academic research, Professor Vaz is a frequent reviewer for leading international journals and funding bodies and serves on numerous editorial boards. Ronan Foley
Therapeutic Landscapes: How blue spaces promote health and wellbeing.
Prof. Dr. Ronan Foley is an Associate Professor Emeritus in Geographies of Health & Wellbeing in the Department of Geography at Maynooth University, Ireland, with specialist expertise in therapeutic landscapes and blue space.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of Health & Place, edited Irish Geography between 2015 and 2022 and was an Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury (NZ) in 2015.
His research focuses broadly on relationships between water, health and place, including two authored/co-edited books, Healing Waters (2010) and Blue Space, Health and Wellbeing: Hydrophilia Unbounded (2019) as well as journal articles on holy wells, spas, social and cultural histories of swimming and ‘blue space’.
He has co-edited special issues on healthy blue space and on swimming for Health & Place (2015/2024) and has been listed in the top 2% Scopus Global Individual Academic Rankings for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023.

Hossein Azadi
Tipping Points and Resilient Agriculture: From Climate-Smart Agriculture to Vulnerable-Smart Agriculture
Prof. Dr. Hossein Azadi obtained his first PhD in agricultural economics and the second in human geography. He is currently a professor at University of Liège in Belgium.
He has published more than 400 journal articles with more than 11000 citations and h-index of 56 underscoring him as top 3% global scientist ranked by AD Scientific index.
His main focus is on Land Governance and Agroecology.
He is a member of the editorial boards in Land Use Policy, Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, Climatic Change, and Land Degradation & Development.
He also serves as a research project evaluator for several international councils and organizations.
