Field Trip - Porto
Porto - World Heritage
Date: June 19, 2025
Coordinator: Jorge Ricardo Pinto
Description:
Porto is a city shaped by time, rising over the Douro like a watchful sentinel. Its roots run deep—at the highest point, a cathedral from the 12th century stands as a reminder of its medieval past. Below, by the riverbanks, life has long thrived: traders once filled boats with goods, their footsteps echoing on the worn granite pavements, their voices weaving through the narrow alleys. As we explore the historic heart of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will navigate twisting medieval streets, uncovering baroque church façades, centuries-old houses, and hidden passageways that tumble down the hillside. The city whispers stories of different times and distant places, etched into its ancient walls. Damp air lingers in the streets, casting an air of mystery, while occasional shafts of light reveal glimpses of the river’s deep blue, where the masts of old ships once swayed.
